The nitrogen balance in plaice, sole and perch.

چکیده
In both ecology and fish-cultivation, a knowledge of the efficiency with which food is converted into growth is of considerable importance. Conversion to growth, however, is but one aspect of the balance of nutrients in general, and it is therefore appropriate to consider the whole of this balance, and to do so with particular reference to selected constituents of living matter, the turnover and cycling of which may be traced from prey to predator. Nitrogen—of which the major portion is contained in proteins—and energy are the most commonly used constituents in such work. The primary nitrogen ' balance' is between the input to the animal, i.e. that which is absorbed into the bloodstream from the food, and the output, in which are included the nitrogen retained as growth or stored in the body and that which is metabolized. The balance is summarized by the following verbal equation, which forms a useful starting point to more detailed discussion:

Intake, Nutrient Digestibility and Nitrogen Balance of Acacia auriculate, Gmelina arborea, Albizia lebbeck and Butryospermum parkii by Yankasa Bucks
The study was conducted to compare the effects of feeding Acacia auriculata (AA), Gmelina arborea (GA), Albizia lebbeck (AL) and Butryospermum parkii (BP) tree forages as a sole feed for Nigerian goats. Four goats (Yankasa) averaging one year and weighing 11.7±1.8 kg were used to measure the feed intake, digestibility and nitrogen balance. The leaves were offered ad libitum. Dry matter (DM) int...
متن کاملInterspecific Resource Competition Effects on Fisheries Revenue
In many fisheries multiple species are simultaneously caught while stock assessments and fishing quota are defined at species level. Yet species caught together often share habitat and resources, resulting in interspecific resource competition. The consequences of resource competition on population dynamics and revenue of simultaneously harvested species has received little attention due to the...

In order to investigate the effects of deficit nitrogen application on growth and yield in sole cropping and intercropping of canola and pea, a factorial experiment was conducted as randomized complete block design with three replications at Shahrekord University Research Farm, Sharekord, Iran during 2011- 2012 growing season. Five planting ratios (100% canola 66% canola + 33% pea, 50% canola +...
متن کاملUsing Expert Knowledge to Identify Possible Groundfish ‘essential Fish Habitats’
ABSTRACT Despite over a century of exploitation of fish in European waters, scientists know surprisingly little about the precise distribution of the major commercially exploited fish species, and their habitat requirements. This is the first European study that aims to identify essential fish habitats of commercially important fish species (cod, haddock, whiting, plaice, sole, plaice, lemon so...
متن کاملSeasonal variation in the diet of harbour seals in the south-western North Sea
Seasonal vanation in harbour seal diet in the south-western North Sea was investigated from faeces collected monthly, over a 2 yr period, from a high-water haulout site in the Wash on the east coast of England. A total of 12444 fish otoliths from 31 species was recovered from 708 faeces; otolith measurements were corrected for partial digestion and used to estimate the proportion, by weight, of...
